How would you do your hair to got with and Oriental kimono?
twist hair up in a bun on the top of your head and hold in place with bobby pins. borrow your grandmas knitting needles and form an x by inserting through the hair under the hair bun. any color will do. wear make up to make you look as white as possible and dark eyeliner around the eyes. darkest red shade for lipstick.

um, traditionally, it's up. But, when I was wearing a kimono for the 20 years celebration in Japan this past January, I saw many girls with their hair down --- typically that's a hakama that girls wear their hair down, but, hell, if you're in the US/UK/AU, does it really matter? not unless you have a grandparent from Japan. So, that being said, when I was there, they gave me a few books to look through, just like you would for a normal dress. most of the styles had the hair on the back part of the head, up in a bun, with little pieces teased out in all directions.
I wore mine in a bun...on the sides, I had either side braided and pulled back with the rest of the hair up in the bun. Then, they put some ornamental decorations...and a flower.
It took about 2 hours to get the make-up, hair, and the kimono on/done...
Um, basically, let your hair dresser know you're going to be wearing a kimono, which has a high collar, and therefore your hair can be at the top of head...
A tight bun will make you look young and not fashionable (in Japanese standards)...but, if you pull a few pieces out, add a carnation, you should be good to go.
ganbatte!

I've had to do my hair up for kimono. Not knowing how long your hair is or how it's cut, makes this a little difficult to answer. So the first step is just to style it as you would to make it attractive in a pony tail. Once you have it in a ponytail you need a hair ratt. Not the furry kind. http://www.sallybeauty.com/content/faqs/...
If you have a Sally's that is a chain of hair and beauty shop suppliers or some store like that. Look for a foam rubber donut. Really it's soft foam rubber and it閳ユ獨 the size and shape of a donut. It comes in a light and black color. Start by putting your ponytail through it; make sure the hair is brushed smooth. Then pull the donut back down the ponytail toward the end, just before you get there stop and start rolling the hair around it like a curler. As you roll the hair around it spread the hair evenly over the surface of the donut, so the hair rolls out from the middle of the donut over the outside of it. You can either roll it tight to the back of you head or just a little loose depending on the look. This technical give you a perfect ring of hair. Try practicing this a few times you'll notice it gets easier and easier with practice. Also you can experiment with where you place you ponytail for different looks. I like to put mine down low toward the back of my neck, this looks good with kimono. But some people look better with it up on the top of the head it look a bit more Chinese to me. Also experiment with how tight the hair is in the ponytail for more options. Chopstick are a classic American thing to do to look oriental or you could try some small flowers on hair pins or a string of pearls or rhinestones on elastic like a bracelet can be put on around the hair for a very elegant look. Good luck and have fun :)
