I work for a great store in Oklahoma where they do bogo or automatically give you 20% off on your prom shoes. But, beware of the large bridal chain stores, you should be careful. Large chains are a rip off. try to get shoes that are redyeable, clear, or silver- they can be used again.

You can find lots of nice dresses worn only once to a prom or wedding for a fraction of the cost of a new dress. Buy shoes at payless for $15, and a manicure is $10. You can do it all for less than $100 if you shop smart

shoes, yooh can purchase at payless . it isnt so bad . your only gonna wear them once for prom right ?
makeup , have someone yooh know come over and do it for yooh.
same with hair.
tanning no . yooh dont wanna look orange . if your to insecured about what your skin looks like. im sure yooh can cover it up with some foundation.
same with nails . yooh can practically do them yourselves ,
yooh can use nail polish and acrylic paint to do some designs .
( my mom does her nails by herself , and they look great. )
and use toothpicks when yooh add details to your nails . maybe dots , for a flower or something.
your ride is free , unless yooh want to rent a limo . if i were yooh i wouldnt . save money , andd i dont believe its worth it since , several other students will be renting limos . whos gonna notice what your ride looks like ? just go there to have fun :)
Why does prom have to cost so much. the dress expecially? All formal events tend to be expensive. Try roaming some thrift stores. Have your best buds get together to do each others hair, nails and makeup. The evening should be fun regardless of your budget, not a quick trip into debt.
I went to 4 proms and they were all pretty much the same. We had a lovely dinner at my dates home. We rode their in a shared limo with friends. My mates did my hair and nails and makeup. I'm opposed to tanning, so didn't have that burden. My mum made my dress from a lovely cilvar war era costume pattern, and it cost about $80. That was the most expensive part. Good luck and remember to keep stress low and fun high.

I got my senior prom dress from a hole-in-the-wall store for $12, and my mother found $3 black sandals for me. I already owned all my jewelry, didn't go tanning and did my own nails. My main expenses were my share of the limo, a salon updo, the tickets, and tickets to a comedy club afterwards.
Definitely start saving now if you want to have enough money by the time the prom rolls around. But there are ways to get around some of the costs. Think about how much money you can save by that time, and then sit down and write out a budget:
* The tickets are non-negotiable, so definitely budget $45 for that.
* Skip the limo, and see if someone has a car you can hitch a ride in. Can you borrow your parents' car? Or can an older sibling or friend drive you, or a parent?
* If you must hire a driver, consider a towncar instead of a limo. It's just as classy, but usually cheaper because it's a smaller car without all the unnecessary extras (TV, fridge, etc.).
* Shop around for your dress. Wait until department stores have sales. Look in discount stores like Marshall's and TJ Maxx ... they carry designer clothes at a discount. Target sometimes has semi-formal dresses for sale. Look around on eBay - there are often brand-new dresses, never-worn for sale. Or check out a thrift store - you may find something great for cheap, so just take it to a dry cleaner's before you wear it.
* Or see if you can borrow a dress from someone - maybe an older sister, friend or cousin. Also ask them for shoes and jewelry.
* For shoes and jewelry, also hit the sales and discount stores. Also, have a swap party with friends ... invite them to your house and ask them to bring shoes and accessories. You can trade and borrow stuff, so that it's new to you but you don't have to pay for it. Use a bag you already own, or borrow one. Nobody will care if it doesn't match.
* For makeup, you can get inexpensive makeup from Jane, Wet %26amp; Wild or eyeslipsface.com. Get it from a pharmacy or a place like Walgreen's/Rite Aid. Also, watch the Sunday papers ... pharmacies often have makeup coupons, like 2 for 1 deals.
* Experiment with doing your own hair in the next few weeks. Just doing something a little different than your normal routine can make a big difference. Try French braids, or straightening/curling your hair. Add a nice headband, barettes or a flower pin for a fresh new look. H%26amp;M has some cute, cheap hair accessories.
* Or, can a friend or sister do your hair for you? Even curling or straightening it can make a huge difference. Get some cheap hair accessories from H%26amp;M or Claire's and add them for a different look.
* You really don't need to get your nails done. Just grow them out a bit and polish them yourself. Nobody's really going to notice your nails.
* Instead of going tanning, just get some Fake Bake or sunless tanner from the store. It's cheaper, not to mention a lot better for your skin. Why risk cancer for just one night?
When I look back at my prom, I don't think about my outfit or accessories. I can't really even remember what color the limo was. I just remember having a nice time with my friends. So concentrate on that moreso than dropping a ton of cash on stuff that doesn't really matter.
Why does prom have to cost so much. the dress expecially? They make the prom an large expense for two reasons: 1. it keeps the poor people away from the well-to-do people that can afford the prom, and 2, it gives rich people's children a chance to play 'grown-up" and show off their parent's money.
Who says you have to go all out? Why do you need a limo? To show off? You can get a used dress and wear church shoes. Do your own hair and nails and make-up.
I thought the prom was gonna be a big deal and a wonderful experience, but I barely remember any of it. It was just another dance.
